Community Guidelines

By using uNepal you agree to these Guidelines, our Terms, and our Privacy Policy. uNepal's goal is simple: help Nepalese worldwide (and friends of the community) connect, find what they need, and keep culture close. These rules apply globally across Home, Community (Circles/Pages/Business Directory), Explore (Marketplace, Services, Events, Rentals, Jobs), Inspire (News, Blogs, Recipes), Profile & Ratings, Messages, and Tools. If local laws or standards are stricter than these Guidelines, you must follow the stricter rules.

1) Scope & Principles

  • Respect people. No harassment, hate, threats, slurs, demeaning stereotypes, or doxxing.
  • Be truthful. No scams, impersonation, or deceptive/misleading content.
  • Stay legal. Follow local laws and regulations (e.g., for jobs, rentals, services, advertising, and consumer protection).
  • Protect privacy. Share your own info; do not post others' private details without consent.
  • Be relevant. Post in the right place and city/state; avoid duplication and spam.
  • Use original/authorised content. Credit sources and respect intellectual property.
  • Think safety-first. If it risks real-world harm, do not post it.

2) Participation & Identity

  • One personal account per person. Businesses may operate separate business pages (see Terms).
  • Real-world responsibility. Whether you use your name or a handle, you are responsible for what you post/sell and the jobs/rentals/services you advertise.
  • Pages/Business representation. Only create/manage a Page/Business you legitimately represent. Misrepresentation may lead to removal.

3) Content Standards (everywhere)

Not allowed (examples, not exhaustive):

  • Hate or dehumanising content; praise for violence or terrorist activity.
  • Harassment, stalking, sexual harassment, explicit sexual content involving minors, or non-consensual intimate images.
  • Criminal activity, instructions to harm, weapons, illicit drugs, stolen goods, or counterfeit items.
  • Fraud/scams (fee-to-apply jobs, rent-before-viewing demands, fake invoices), phishing, pyramid/MLM schemes.
  • Privacy violations (IDs, bank details, private addresses) or doxxing.
  • IP infringement (pirated media, stolen logos/art), deepfakes used to mislead.
  • Misinformation that poses immediate risk (dangerous health/financial claims, panic bait).
  • Spam/engagement bait; automation/scraping without permission; fake reviews/ratings.
  • Solicitation for paid adult services or exploitative content.

Sensitive or graphic material: Label warnings where contextually necessary; do not post gore or shock content.

4) Listings & Commercial Areas (Explore)

uNepal is a community-first platform, not a broker. You are responsible for legal compliance and honesty in listings.

4.1 Marketplace (buy/sell)

  • Be accurate about condition, price, location, and delivery/pickup.
  • No illegal/regulated items, recalled products, counterfeit goods, or stolen property.
  • Meet safely in public places and verify items before paying.

4.2 Services

  • Offer only services you can lawfully provide (some trades/advisory roles require licences/registrations).
  • Be clear on scope, pricing/quotes, availability, and how to contact you.
  • No "guaranteed results" claims for regulated/professional areas.

4.3 Events

  • Include organiser, date/time, venue/suburb, free/paid, and any age/safety requirements.
  • Do not oversell capacity; follow venue rules and applicable safety laws.

4.4 Rentals

  • Provide truthful rent, suburb/state, availability, inclusions, bond, and house rules.
  • No discrimination (protected attributes) and no unlawful fees.
  • No "rent bidding" language. Be ready to verify right-to-let if asked.

4.5 Jobs

  • Include employer/Page, title, location, duties, hours, and pay info (where applicable).
  • No fees to apply, no unlawful unpaid trials, no below-minimum pay, no "visa guaranteed" promises.
  • Be honest about visa/work-rights requirements.

Trust signals: Keep your Business/Page profile complete and consistent. We may ask for proof (e.g., licences, right-to-let) before or after publishing.

5) Community (Circles, Pages, Business Directory)

  • Circles: Post on-topic; respect each Circle's pinned rules. Cross-posting the same ad across many Circles is spam.
  • Pages: Use Pages for official updates, offers, and service info. Keep contact details, hours, and pricing current.
  • Directory: Only legitimate businesses; do not impersonate competitors or public agencies. Verified badges (if offered) can be removed for misuse.

6) Inspire (News, Blogs, Recipes)

  • News: Clearly state sources; distinguish reporting from opinion; avoid plagiarising.
  • Blogs: Use your own words; cite quotes and references. Debate is welcome — personal attacks are not.
  • Recipes: Share ingredients/steps; use your photos or licensed images (give credit).

7) Messaging, Comments & Interactions

  • No spam or mass unsolicited messages.
  • No harassment, pressure for money, or requests for passwords, OTPs, or sensitive documents.
  • Keep disagreements civil; attack ideas, not people.
  • Do not publish private messages without consent (unless reporting abuse to us).
  • Messages are not end-to-end encrypted, so avoid sharing sensitive personal or financial details.

8) Ratings & Reviews (Profile & Pages)

  • Reviews must reflect first-hand experience — no review swaps or paid/fake ratings.
  • Businesses/Pages may reply politely to feedback but must not disclose a customer's private info.
  • Coordinated brigading to manipulate ratings is prohibited.

9) Media, Minors & Privacy

  • Get consent before posting identifiable photos/videos of others.
  • Extra care with minors: avoid school uniforms, precise locations, and full names.
  • Remove media upon a valid privacy request (e.g., a parent requesting removal of a child's image).

10) Tools (Calendar, Rashifal, Forex, Calculators, Dhukuti, SplitBill, Gathering)

These are information/coordination tools only — not financial, legal, medical or migration advice.

  • Dhukuti/SplitBill/Gathering: agree rules privately; be respectful with reminders; no threats or public shaming for late payers.
  • Forex & calculators: informational — verify with official sources before decisions.

11) Frequency, Cross-Posting & Promotions

  • Do not flood feeds. Reposting identical promos daily or blasting multiple Circles will be treated as spam.
  • Disclose paid partnerships or sponsorships with clear labels (e.g., "#ad" or "Sponsored").
  • Keep promotions accurate — no bait pricing or bait-and-switch.

12) Enforcement (how we act)

We look at severity, intent, impact, and history. Possible actions:

  • Educate & nudge — labels, edit suggestions, re-categorise, merge duplicates.
  • Remove or limit — delete content; hide from discovery; limit posting/messaging; require verification.
  • Suspend — temporary account restriction (24h-30d).
  • Ban — permanent removal for egregious or repeated violations (e.g., scams, sexual exploitation, hate, serious safety risks).
  • Escalate — contact venues, platforms, or authorities where legally required or to prevent harm.

We may use automated tools (including AI) to detect policy violations. You can request human review or appeal.

We may act without prior notice if urgent safety or legal risks exist.

13) Reporting & Appeals

  • Tap Report on any post/profile/listing or email hello@unepal.com for urgent issues.
  • Include links/screenshots and a short description of the problem.
  • We aim to review promptly, but response times vary with volume/severity.
  • If your post is removed or your account restricted, you can appeal within 14 days. Provide context and evidence. Repeated or abusive appeals may be closed.

Emergencies or imminent danger? Call 000 first.

14) Brand & IP Use

  • Do not use uNepal's brand, logos, or UI elements without permission.
  • Do not imitate official government or emergency service logos; clearly identify parody/satire.

15) Special Topics (short guidance)

  • Politics & public interest: Debate is welcome; hate or targeted harassment is not. Link to sources; avoid coordinated disinformation.
  • Health & crisis events: Avoid harmful misinformation; when in doubt, link to official guidance.
  • Fundraising: Be transparent about who receives funds, how, and through what platform; we may ask for verification.

16) Updates & Contact

We may update these Guidelines as features or laws change. Major updates will be announced in-app.
